This case study conducted a comprehensive electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance evaluation on an F520M wiper motor, covering four major test items: radiation, conduction, low-frequency magnetic field, and power line transient conduction. This evaluation verified whether its electromagnetic performance under real-world vehicle operating conditions met industry standards.
Testing Date: August 2025.
Testing Location: Professional EMC Laboratory.
Test Target: F520M wiper motor (driving safety-related component).
Voltage Range: 9–16 V (Test Voltage: 14.5 V).
The test sample features an aluminum alloy and mild steel housing and is installed in the engine compartment. A standardized EMC test bench, combined with a power system, load simulator, and CAN communication diagnostic equipment, realistically replicates the complete vehicle electrical environment.
Operating modes include:
● Mode 1: Low-speed continuous operation
● Mode 2: High-speed continuous operation
● Mode 3: Low-speed stalled
● Mode 4: High-speed stalled
This test is based on industry EMC standards (BT series) and covers the following four categories:
● Radiated Emissions (08244.2).
● Conducted Emissions (08244.3).
● Low-Frequency Magnetic Fields (08244.5).
● Power Line Transients (08244.4).
The laboratory is equipped with:
● Anechoic Chamber (semi-anechoic chamber).
● Rod antenna, biconical antenna, log-periodic antenna, horn antenna.
● Artificial Power Network.
● High-sensitivity receiver and oscilloscope.
● To ensure the accuracy and repeatability of test results.
Frequency Range: 0.15 MHz to 2.5 GHz.
Test Mode: High-Speed Operation.
Results: Measured values in all frequency bands were below the limits and met standard requirements in both horizontal and vertical directions.
Frequency Range: 150 kHz to 108 MHz.
Results: Both positive and negative conducted noise meet limits, demonstrating good electromagnetic interference control.
Frequency Range: 100–150 kHz.
Test Directions: X, Y, and Z Axis.
Results: All directions met standard limits, with no exceedances.
Operation: OFF→ON, ON→OFF.
Pulse Limit: +200 V / -400 V.
Measured results: Maximum voltage was only 25 V, significantly below the limit, demonstrating stable performance.
The F520M wiper motor met standard requirements in all four EMC categories, demonstrating excellent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance. The tests covered the full frequency range and various operating conditions, yielding detailed data and providing valuable reference for the EMC design and verification of automotive-grade motor products.
